Collograph and Block Printing Course
Intaglio printmaking using texture
Tutor: Katherine Jones
Course Outline:
Collagraph is a method of intaglio printmaking that uses texture to create a wide variety of tone and line on a plate. The plate is printed using an etching press although unlike an etching the materials are largely non-specialist and the plate-making process is naturally non-toxic.

This particular class will focus on a simple method of making a collagraph, using it in combination with a second quick relief print. The course will benefit beginners as well as those with some knowledge of printmaking.
Day 1
The first day will be taken up with a practical demonstration of making and printing quick intaglio prints using a combination of simple collagraph and block-print plates. Participants will then be able to begin to make and print their own plates.
Day 2
On the second day participants will continue to make and print their collagraphs. There will be a short demonstration of printing a la poupee (using several colours on one plate) and will include tips on wiping, editioning and maintaining the plates.
Course includes:

Materials - Basic Materials are supplied. Additional specialist materials are available at cost.
Refreshments - tea, coffee and biscuits.

Spacious Studio plus well equipped print room, art library.
